“That's the goal, that's what I'm trying to achieve”

Wayne Rooney has previously said he still hopes to one day become Manchester United manager as he prepares to continue his career in television punditry.

On Monday, TNT Sports announced that Rooney will be a commentator on Saturday's coverage of Manchester United's match against Everton.

He previously appeared as a commentator on the BBC's coverage of Nottingham Forest's FA Cup fifth round clash with Manchester United last week.

Rooney was sacked by Birmingham City from his first job as a pundit after less than three months in the role.

Prior to this, the Manchester United legend had spells at Derby County and MLS side D.C. United.

While sitting in the studio with Jermaine Jenas watching the FA Cup match, presenter Gary Lineker asked Rooney “what job is he looking for next”, adding: “Manchester United?”

He smiled and replied: “Of course, that's the purpose! That's where you want to be.”

But he also revealed that he would love to coach his other former team Everton.

Rooney continued: “Obviously, Manchester United, Everton, all these great jobs you want to try and do.”

The 38-year-old began his playing career at Everton and became the Premier League's oldest player in history when he scored a late winner against Arsenal five days shy of his 17th birthday. Young goalscorer.

After two seasons at the Toffees, he joined Manchester United and achieved legendary status at the club. During his 13 years at Old Trafford, Rooney played 559 times for the Red Devils, scoring 253 goals and becoming the club's top scorer in history.

After a return to Everton and brief spells at Derby County and MLS, Rooney entered management.

This included spells in charge of Derby County and MLS side D.C. United before a disastrous spell at Birmingham City.

As one of the biggest names in British football, it's no surprise that broadcasters are keen to involve Rooney in their coverage, so don't rule out the possibility of Rooney appearing on more football programmes, such as The Daily in the coming weeks Games or months.
