Wright was the brunt of many jokes after the draw
Ian Wright says he never wants to attend an FA Cup draw again because he finds it too “nerve-wracking”.
After United's win over Liverpool was broadcast live on ITV, Wright was trusted to direct the semi-final draw.
He does it in his own style, preferring to keep his eyes off the bag when he draws teams from the hat. The former Arsenal man even made Roy Keane laugh.
However, looking back on the draw, many compared his style to Stevie Wonder impressions, and the 60-year-old said it was something he didn't want to do again.
“I can't believe how many people are crazy about this,” he said on the show. Stick with the Football Podcast.
“There were only four balls and I think people were a little bit frustrated because we didn't know who was one, two, three and four. But most importantly they were very strict about making sure we didn't look at what was in the bag before opening the bag Make sure the bag is tight so you can't peek inside.
“At the end of the day, people were asking 'What is he doing Stevie Wonder for?!'” I'm not playing Stevie Wonder; I just made sure I wasn't looking at (the bag). It looks like Stevie Wonder, but I don't want people to say the draw was wrong – people still butcher me, but I think it's a great draw. “
He added: “Don't ask me to do it (the FA Cup draw) again! It's nerve-wracking and if they asked me to do it again (I wouldn't). He (Roy Keane) was also involved .
“Can you imagine what it would have been like for Manchester United against Coventry if he had done that?! I would have been neutral. I think I'm a very good neutral too.
“I didn't even realize it at the time. I'd done the Coventry and Manchester United games so we knew what was coming and I almost said 'We know what's coming, what's the point of attracting them!' “.
Wright closes in on Iconic Cup draw
Of course, when we think of cup draws, there's only one that comes to mind.
This was obviously Rod Stewart's incredible Scottish Cup draw.
Watching him rush in and reveal the numbers with such enthusiasm has now become a widely shared meme.
Looking back on his antics, the singer did admit that he “had a few drinks” before going on live TV and had “a couple of drinks.”
Neville named player of the season
Elsewhere in the podcast, staff look back at that incredible FA Cup tie that saw United beat Liverpool in the dying seconds.
As well as praising Amad Diallo and questioning why he isn't getting more game time, Neville also singled out one player who he believes has had an outstanding season.
After Wright mentioned he had bumped into Amad Diallo, Neville initially thought he was referring to Diogo Dalot, and replied: “He's doing great isn't he? He's been this season ( Manchester United's best player.
This comes after Manchester United fans recently admitted that Mourinho's prediction for Dalot has finally been proven correct.
