“It’s not what you asked for, it’s what you asked for.”

A cafe has hit back after being charged £9 for extra toast after a customer complained.

A visitor to The Shambles cafe in Lytham, St Annes, left a shocking one-star review on Google and TripAdvisor, criticizing the cafe's prices and customer service and writing about the “nice little place” Ruined by their visit.

The woman claimed she was charged £9 for four slices of “thin, hard bread” in her soup and called the owner “rude”.

The woman wrote in full: “What a shame about this little restaurant, a nice little place was completely ruined by terrible customer service and overpriced. We ordered two portions of soup and asked for an extra piece of bread for each portion Rolls, we obviously expected to pay for extra rolls but were disappointed that the soup came with two very small slices of thinly baked sourdough instead of soft rolls, but hey ho.

“What we didn’t expect was that there was a charge of £9 for extra bread. £9 for four slices of thin hard bread. I spoke to the owner and he very rudely asked me why I wanted free food and when I tried to explain I Wanted to pay but the price was extortionate, he wouldn't listen! He told me he didn't care and wanted me to post a bad review here, so here it is.”

But then the shop owner fought back!

Responding to critics, butcher shop bosses claimed customers were “extremely happy” at their cafe and were given a menu explaining the extra cost of toasted sourdough bread.

They added that customers called to “demand” a refund, saying: “You didn't ask for it, you asked for a refund. You also threatened us with a negative review if we didn't refund.”

More specifically, the owner wrote: “Yesterday when I served you and checked on you twice, you looked happy! You had the menu in your hand and it said soup with toasted sourdough bread. It also showed us There is a charge for extra bread (in our breakfast section). There is also a menu outside our restaurant.

“So if you're not happy with the price, please don't come in. Regarding the call this morning, you asked for a refund. You didn't ask for it, you asked for it. You also threatened to give us the difference if we didn't refund the money. Comment.

“Hope you had a great day and are feeling better now! Kind regards.”

Shots were fired.
