Not what he thought
A video of Anthony fuming at Eric Hag asking him to play at left-back during Sunday's FA Cup win over Liverpool went viral.
Anthony came off the bench and scored a late goal to send Manchester United into overtime in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Harvey Elliott restored the visitors' lead, prompting Ten Witches to make a tactical change.
After replacing Victor Lindelof with Mason Mount, the United boss asked Anthony to play at left-back as he looks to return to the draw.
After confirming the changes, which even saw Bruno Fernandes playing alongside Harry Maguire at centre-back, Anthony lost his cool.
Video filmed in the stands showed the Brazilian furious at the decision, looking at Ten Hag in disbelief before Marcus Rashford stepped in to try to calm him down.
Ten witches' strategy paid off
Despite Anthony's angry display, he did carry on with the game and Ten Hag's tactics proved effective throughout, with United scoring a dramatic late winner through Amad Diallo.
The winger clearly had a more positive outlook after United's win when asked about his final performance.
He said: “Sacrifice, sacrifice, we think it's a little weird when the coach says that, but sacrifice for the collective, sacrifice for the team, that's fine with me.”
Is it Anthony's time?
It has been a difficult time for the £86m signing from Ajax, especially this season.
Sunday's goal was only his second of the season against Newport County earlier this year but looked to be his sharpest strike at Old Trafford in some time and it could be The catalyst that ultimately proved his high price tag.
Ten Hag has also been supporting the winger, telling after the game BeIN Sports: “That was very important to him. He struggled very much. The first part, he was not himself and he took responsibility for that.
“Then he lost confidence and now he has to fight back. We saw in the last two weeks that he came back.
“I saw Anthony in training, I worked with him at Ajax and I worked here.
“He has to fight back and I'm sure he will because you saw that goal.
“But it's not just about scoring goals. When he plays at left-back he defends very well. In some systems he can play from that side.
“He's not a defensive player, don't get me wrong because we've seen that he can score goals.”
