Is she right?
A woman has sparked an online debate after revealing she refused to give up her pre-booked plane seat so her children could sit with their family.
The woman shared her story on the Reddit forum Am I a jerk? She described how she specifically booked an aisle seat on a long-haul flight from Africa to Dubai so she could get up and move around the cabin without disturbing anyone, and ordered special meals in advance due to health requirements.
She described the incident and asked other Reddit users to comment on whether she was right or wrong in sticking to her point of view.
“This was my second eight-hour flight on my way home from Africa via Dubai,” she explained.
“I booked an aisle seat so I could get up without disturbing others, and because of health requirements I ordered a special meal. I boarded the plane, found my seat and settle down.
“A family with 3 kids (who didn’t speak much English) asked me if I could swap seats with one of their kids so they could be together. The father of the family was not sitting near the mother and kids, So it seemed to me that their seats were randomly assigned. I initially said yes thinking it was just across the aisle, but then realized they wanted me to move to the middle seat, which I declined.”

She continued: “Another passenger stood up and said there was a seat behind him that I could move to (I didn’t know how), but I refused. I said I had already reserved a seat and ordered a diet meal, and it was impossible to change it. to the middle seat. He then started yelling at me and said he wanted me to understand that I was breaking up a family which eventually got the crew's attention because it was hindering boarding.
“They asked a passenger who was sitting at the other end to move to another seat so their children could sit together. Another passenger from before started shouting to his children and family: 'Do you understand what's going on?' She thinks her seat is too special, so she won't let you sit together. ” I told the guy to mind his own business and he responded that he wasn’t talking to me. I was exhausted and sleep deprived by this point and I told him to stop talking about me and that was that.
“I don’t think I’m at fault here. I was prepared and had a reserved seat, and in the middle of an eight-hour flight, I was suddenly criticized for not wanting to move to the middle seat. It’s unfair.”
The woman asked other users of the open forum after her post: “Am I an asshole?”
The most popular comment had over 11,000 upvotes, and their response was simple and clear. “NTA. If a family wants to reunite, they can pay to do so,” they wrote.
Another user felt the same way: “NTA. I’m tired of the entitled people thinking someone should die for them. If they want to sit together they should book seats together. It’s not your problem you insist on yours It's a good thing for you to stand your ground and not let them bully you.”
In fact, looking through the many comments below this post, it's hard to find a single person who thinks the original poster was wrong.
Some people shared their own stories of similar incidents and reinforced the stance that you should always stay in the seat you paid for.

I chose a window seat behind the exit row (no reclining!) and by the time I boarded, a family was already After boarding early and claiming my seat, I said nicely “Sorry, but my ticket is for a window seat” and the family told me – without asking – that they wanted to sit together and I could seat them in the wide area. Buy the middle seat in the middle of the plane.
“I responded that I was sorry they were separated but I wanted a more desirable seat and I had paid the surcharge. The husband started berating me and refused to move. I suggested we call the flight attendant and find out Could the airline offer them a transfer but he fussed angrily and got out of my way with his back turned to me the entire flight like it was a punishment not to talk to him.”
