His ex-girlfriend allegedly posted a cryptic message on Instagram

Former Manchester City striker Joe Alves has been arrested in Sao Paulo, Brazil, for allegedly failing to pay child support, Homeland reports.

Joe, 37, became City's record signing at the time when he joined from CSKA Moscow in 2008 for £19m, but he failed to settle and was loaned out to Everton and Galata in 2009 and 2011. saree.

He eventually returned to Brazil to play for Internacional in 2011, most recently joining Serie B side Amazonas, who were promoted to the league at the start of the season.

Joe was arrested on the bus

Joe was arrested by police shortly after arriving in the Sao Paulo city of Campinas for Tuesday night's game against Ponte Preta, according to Brazilian newspaper The Sun.

The striker was taken to jail and held overnight, with lawyer Artur Eugenio Matias issuing a statement saying: “A city in the state of Bahia has been charged over a sum of money. A warrant was issued for a rather small debt.

“According to the lawyer handling the case, the debt has been paid off. Jo will go through the IML (Institute of Legal Medicine) and then enter the prison of the second DP.

“There is no doubt that tomorrow this debt will be repaid and we hope he will be released.”

Extra was quick to report that the ex-girlfriend of former Manchester City player Maiara Quiderolly had commented on his arrest, with many speculating the debt was linked to their 16-month-old son.

She had previously shared a story on Instagram accusing the reposter of falling behind on payments for children's dinners, the Daily Mail reported.

After reports of the arrest broke, she apparently posted on social media: “One day a hunt, another day a hunter.”
