How much money did you usually get from the tooth fairy when you were a kid? 50p? £1? £2 if you're really lucky?

A mum is divided after she revealed she left $20 (£16) under her daughter's pillow to combat “inflation”.

The mom wrote in a post on Reddit: “It’s crazy what you’re Googling right now. I had to look up and see how much the tooth fairy paid for the first tooth. We decided to spend $20 because She was too excited and lost her teeth too late. All her friends so far have lost several.

“I ended up making a heart shape out of $20 origami and sprinkled it with glitter. Then I took a pair of Barbie shoes and printed a glitter walk on her nightstand. She loved it and started immediately Check everywhere for other shoe prints and to see where the Tooth Fairy lady entered the house.”

When the little girl told her grandparents about the Tooth Fairy's generous gifts, they were stunned.

Mom continued, “My parents were shocked. (They said), 'Twenty dollars! I was lucky to get a quarter.'” Sorry, Mom and Dad, the Tooth Fairy suffers from inflation, too. “The way we look at it is like one article said, $10 to $20 for the first tooth (or), $1 to $5 for each tooth after that. Over the course of a few years, it costs less than $100 dollars. Today, $100 is nothing for a few years.”

While many were shocked by the large amount of money mom left for her daughter, others pointed out that it was pointless since all the child cared about was the fact that the tooth fairy was there.

One person wrote: “20? Like 20 bucks! Seems like a lot. My kid got a shiny £2 and a note from the tooth fairy. She was really happy with it.”

Another commented: “We originally planned to spend $5 but my son chose to keep the tooth for 'research'.”

“The kids don't care about the numbers, they just think it's cool that the fairies are here,” said a third.

Someone else joked: “Twenty yuan? How many teeth do I have, you can take them away!”
