Prime Video’s new detective mystery series Them: The Scare is currently sitting on a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score.

The Scare is the second installment of the streaming service’s anthology show Them, with both seasons focusing on black families living in Los Angeles who find themselves plagued by both real world horrors and supernatural ones.

While the first season – which premiered back in 2021 – was set in the ’50s, The Scare moves the action to the ’90s, focusing on a single mother and cop named Dawn (Deborah Ayorinde) as she investigates a string of mysterious killings.

“Navigating a tumultuous time in Los Angeles, with a city on the razor’s edge of chaos, Dawn is determined to stop the killer,” the plot synopsis reads.

“But as she draws closer to the truth, something ominous and malevolent grips her and her family.”

Alongside Ayorinde, the cast for the sophomore batch of episodes also features Jeremy Bobb (The Outsider), Pam Grier (Jackie Brown), Wayne Knight (Seinfeld) and singer Luke James, with the latter playing the show’s second lead character – an aspiring actor losing grip of his sanity.

Retaining the same themes and high production values of its first season, while also telling a shorter and tighter story, the general consensus is that The Scare is a big improvement on its predecessor.

You can read a sample of some of the positive reviews for the new season right here:

But Why Tho?: “Bolstered by its incredibly gifted actors, Them: The Scare is a terrifying supernatural slasher that moves the anthology to the right track.”

Espinof: “The first great horror series of the year.”

Just My Opinion Reviews: “A magnificent yet horrid depiction of how trauma is passed down through generations.”

Mama’s Geeky: “A deeply unsettling, terrifyingly, season that fully embraces the things horror fans love.”

Both Them and Them: The Scare are streaming on Prime Video in their entirety right now.
