Tartan Army looking for new recruits

Scotland have set their sights on five talented England stars as they look to further strengthen their selection.

According to The Sun , several names have been discussed ahead of a potential switch of international allegiances this summer.

This includes four players from Newcastle United. Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes, Elliot Anderson and Tino Liveramento are all possible candidates, as well as talented Leeds United youngster Archie Gray.

Gordon is perhaps the most unlikely name of all, as his appearances in England's recent friendlies against Brazil and Belgium put him in line to get on a plane for Euro 2024.

Meanwhile, Barnes has previously represented England in a friendly against Wales, but failed to really make a name for himself on the international stage. Meanwhile, Anderson and Liveramento face stiff competition in their respective positions.

Gray is still only 18, but he has already become a mainstay in Leeds' starting XI as they seek a return to the Premier League. He is also part of Lee Carsley's Under-21 squad for the March international break.

What are their chances of qualifying for Euro 2024?

Apart from Gordon, it's fair to say that the other names mentioned will almost certainly not feature in Gareth Southgate's squad, but when asked about the chance of committing to the tartan this summer Scotland's second-placed John Carver didn't have high hopes for the Legion.

“I would be very surprised because the loyalty is huge,” Carver said.

“It is important to give these committed players who have performed well for their country the opportunity to join the 23-man squad.

“I think we’ve pretty much decided what we’re going to take away.

“I would be very surprised if someone comes out of nowhere. Unless we find someone who will say 'Wow' – a great player.”

Carver continued: “I'm not going down the street from Anderson and Gordon because I've had enough. I'm tired of talking about this.

“I would be very surprised if someone came out of nowhere.

“But we are looking at all options for the future – because we have to go further again after the Euros.”
