'He got away with it'

Troy Deeney believes Marcus Rashford can “move on” from his behavior at Manchester United.

He was outstanding last season, scoring 30 goals, but this year has been tougher, with just eight goals in 40 games.

The dip in form raised questions about his attitude and he was spotted at a Belfast nightclub just hours after he called in sick to train with United.

He was then punished for being dropped from the FA Cup tie against Newport County.

Deeney stresses the issue

Deeney, who now works as a pundit after a brief spell as Forest Green Rangers manager, said he felt there was a lack of “professionals” in United's squad and building a team of like-minded players around Rashford would help improve His playing ability.

“(If I were Manchester United manager) I would have a serious chat with Marcus. I think Marcus Rashford can be the guy you build a team with, but you need to find some quality around him Very good professional players to hold him accountable,” he told William Hill's Forward Three podcast.

“Whenever Marcus is in the paper, he’s shooting and scoring. Whenever Marcus is off the team, he’s going to go out and score.

“I think he can get away with it because he's talented and the team knows he's talented. If he surrounds himself with some really good characters and leaders, he'll get back on track pretty quickly.”

Is Rashford moving?

Manchester United are expected to make a major squad shake-up, with a number of first-team players expected to either leave or be available for transfer.

Rashford is said to be one of those who could be sold for the right price due to interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

The French giants are looking to replace Kylian Mbappe, who is set to join Real Madrid, and have identified the England international as their ideal replacement.
