“This is bad”
A Tesla driver shared his electricity bills while driving his car and the results shocked people.
Tesla is the king of electric vehicles, one of the most valuable companies in the world and one of the leaders in the electric vehicle market.
Although electric cars are the future, many people may be put off buying a Tesla because they are too expensive and there are concerns about running costs as electricity prices rise.
When a Tesla owner shared his electric bill after driving the electric car for a year, people were confused — but not in the way you might think.
Sharing a photo of the bill, the man wrote: “This is the first time I've received a bill for the past 12 months. This is awful.”
Total bill? $2.37.
Yes, not even double digits.
So how does he keep his bills so low?
Well, car owners still had to spend a considerable amount of money in the past to get the low-cost return of installing a Tesla Powerwall. This is a giant battery that cycles into your home's power supply, which is especially useful if you have solar panels.
When the solar panels power the house, any excess electricity is stored in the Powerwall and charges the Tesla.
According to Forbes, the cost of this technology is quite high, with Powerwalls starting at around $11,500 (£9,000) and some going as high as $15,000 (£11,800).
After a few years, as the above bill shows, it may be worth it, but it's definitely a huge investment.
Sympathy for the man's bill was sarcastically expressed.
One person commented: “Damn my brother posted a GoFund Me, I'm sure the community will rally around you.”
Another said: “My sympathies to you at this terrible time.”
