There have been rumors of a revival for years.

It's been nearly 15 years since “Sherlock” first hit screens, attracting a cult following and standing out from its star cast.

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and Andrew Scott, the show provided a platform for some of the most talented acting talents who went on to become Hollywood stars in their own right.

Well, it'll be great news for fans of the show to hear that co-creator Mark Gatiss is still willing to return to Sherlock in film form.

“We want to make a movie, but it's very difficult to get everyone together,” Gatiss told Deadline over the weekend. “We'll see.

“You'd have to ask Benedict (Cumberbatch) and Martin (Freeman),” he added.

While it's by no means a clear answer, the fact that Gatiss and his fellow creator Steven Moffat are interested in reigniting Sherlock's story is enough to get fans excited.

Sherlock first aired on the BBC in 2010 and ran for four full seasons, plus a special season in 2016.

Starring Cumberbatch as the famous detective, the series is based on the character created by Arthur Conan Doyle but set in the modern world.

In addition to the trustworthy Sherlock, there is also his loyal assistant Watson (played by Freeman).

While the first two seasons were well-received, later seasons received mixed reviews, with the fourth season being particularly disappointing among fans and critics.

However, the show is still considered one of the best BBC productions of the past few decades and still has a loyal fan base to this day.

Last year, Freeman refused to rule out a return to the show, telling Jonathan Ross on the talk show that “there's never a completely closed door.”

He continued: “Personally, I'm a fan of finite things. But I'm also a fan of good ideas and good scripts, and if there's something that convinces us all, my door is always open.”

Cumberbatch also said he's eager to revisit the show at some point in the future.

Gatiss and Moffat have since teamed up again to create the 2020 BBC miniseries Dracula, which received critical acclaim upon release.
