Rashford 'very affected'
Marcus Rashford's mother has revealed how off-field tragedy has affected him after two people died in his family.
Rashford's performances at United have been criticized for failing to reach last season's level, scoring just eight goals in all competitions.
But in a recent column in The Times, Rashford's mother Melanie Maynard revealed the struggles her son has faced outside of football.
After the death of their close friend Garfield Hayward in 2022, Rashford's cousin Nathan also died a year later.
“Marcus lost a second very important person in his life in November: his cousin Nathan, who was deeply affected by the death a year earlier of a very good family friend, Gav. Devastating. It’s a lot to deal with for someone so young,” Maynard wrote.
“Marcus is human, so he has ups and downs in life just like everyone else. Marcus is in a really good place and he will never let anyone down.
“But you always need to be wary of the intentions of the people around you – sometimes the people around you can be wolves in sheep’s clothing.”
Rashford celebrates goal tribute
Shortly after scoring against Wales at the 2022 World Cup, Rashford dedicated his goal to Hayward and scored the same in United's 2-0 win over Everton Goal.
He also scored in a dramatic 4-3 win over Liverpool, leveling the score at 3-3 in extra time before Amad Diallo scored the stoppage-time winner for the FA. The Cup semi-final against Coventry City laid the foundation.
