Manchester City star Erling Haaland will face a different challenge after agreeing to collaborate, having become a character in the popular mobile game Clash of Clans.

Haaland joins as the Barbarian King in the latest update, with a number of football-themed features appearing in the game throughout the month, including special forces characters and medal events.

Fans of the game will also have the opportunity to try to destroy Haaland's in-game village and will be able to play as/play against him from May 1st.

As part of the partnership, an epic movie-style trailer was released, complete with a custom Harland soundtrack. The trailer shows Harland meeting characters from the game in real life and then being transported into the animated world of Clash of Clans.

You can watch the full trailer here.

Visitors to the App Store will see an exclusive reveal of Haaland's role in the game as well as more details on rewards and events.

When he's not scoring goals, Haaland likes to relax by playing Clash of Clans, admitting that keeping his involvement in the game a secret is tricky.

He said: “It’s hard to keep this a secret, but I’m excited to finally be able to talk about this epic partnership with Clash of Clans. I’ve been a huge fan of the game for a long time and know everything about it, So it’s really cool to be a character in the game.”

To mark this historic moment, billboards have been placed across the country in London, Liverpool and Manchester. The billboard invites people to scan a QR code, download Clash of Clans, raid Harland's own village and steal his gold.

Another football star has taken up the challenge.

Honduras goalkeeper Jose Garcia is best known for his three hat-tricks from Erling Haaland during the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, but he's already enjoying some sweet moments in the competition punish.

José Garcia said: “I’ve wanted to take revenge on Erling Haaland for years, and now that I see him appearing in Clash of Clans, my chance has come!”

Stuart McGaw, General Manager, Clash of Clans, Added: “When we heard Erling Haaland was a fan of our game and he wanted to work with us, it was a dream scenario. Our team did everything they could to get him, the best athlete in the world one into the world of the game so our players can enjoy truly special moments.”
