Alonso is Liverpool's number one target

Xavi Alonso has reportedly opened talks with Bayern Munich and is apparently favoring a move to Liverpool in the summer.

Alonso is one of the most sought-after players in world football and his performances for Bayer Leverkusen have lifted the team to the top of the Bundesliga and remain unbeaten in all competitions this season.

Alonso has preference for next job

Liverpool and Bayern are both looking for new managers after Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel confirmed they will step down from their roles at the end of the season.

The Spaniard is the favorite for both jobs, but Sky Sports Germany reported on Monday that the 42-year-old has been in active talks with Bayern and is leaning towards a move to the Bavarian giants.

They also add that the former Spain international has reservations about a move to Anfield because of the risks associated with trying to follow in Klopp's footsteps.

Klopp won the Champions League, the Premier League, the FA Cup, two League Cups and the FIFA Club World Cup during his nine years at Liverpool – a legacy that would set the stage for anyone who replaces him in the dugout. Comes with a very high ceiling.

Leverkusen will benefit from Alonso's departure

Given Alonso's high status in the game, despite his early days in charge, Leverkusen are ready for the day the former midfielder leaves.

It is claimed that due to fixed clauses in the contract, Leverkusen will receive between £13m and £21m, depending on how many trophies they ultimately win.

By the end of the season, the Bundesliga leaders could have a league title, DFB-Pokal and Europa League title in their trophy cabinet if their success continues.
