Hollywood star Will Ferrell has reportedly bought a significant stake in one of English football's biggest clubs, Leeds United.
According to The Sun , Ferrell has decided to invest in an EFL club, following in the footsteps of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
Reynolds and McElhenney were, of course, Wrexham's owners, taking them from non-league all the way to League One.
They're not the only celebrities from across the pond involved in English football. NFL stars Tom Brady and JJ Watt have invested in Birmingham and Burnley respectively, both rising to prominence at the club.
Ferrell, known for his roles in comedies such as Anchorman, Elf and Stepbrothers, is expected to be announced as an investor in Leeds by 49ers Enterprise in the coming days.
The actor is already an investor in Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC and has clearly fallen in love with English football.
An insider revealed: “He loves football and is particularly impressed by the passion for the game in England.
“His goal now is to get Leeds back where they belong – in the Premier League. This is a significant investment opportunity for Will and the 49ers.”
However, it remains to be seen what level Leeds will be at at the start of next season.
The Yorkshire club face Norwich City in the Championship play-off semi-finals this week, with the winner then facing Southampton or West Brom at Wembley to secure the final spot in the Premier League next season.
