Mbappe is not the only one absent
Kylian Mbappe was left behind by his teammates after Paris Saint-Germain lost to Borussia Dortmund.
Germany won the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals 1-0 thanks to Niklas Forkrug's first-half strike.
Mbappe played the entire game but had his best chance shortly after the break but his best chance was denied by the post.
Luis Enrique's side returned to Paris after the game but Mbappe's absence was notable, but now the reason has been revealed.
Mbappe retreated after the game
French media outlet Le Parisien revealed that the striker was randomly selected for a drug test. The 2018 World Cup winner then met his teammates at the airport before flying back to France.
Random drug testing will be conducted regularly after the game, and relevant personnel will be asked to stay and wait for the mandatory testing to be completed before leaving.
This appears to be Mbappe's final season at the club, with everything hanging in the balance as to whether he can finish the campaign on a high note and ultimately win the Champions League.
PSG's lackluster performances in Europe's elite competition have led to frustration for the club and its fans, and this will continue as long as they don't win major trophies.
Mbappe looks certain to move to Real Madrid in the summer and if Real Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid can beat Bayern Munich, Mbappe could end up going head-to-head with them in the final.
