Real Madrid could be in trouble

Real Madrid could be in trouble after VAR protocols were breached during their Champions League win over Bayern Munich.

Alphonso Davies initially helped the visitors win the game 4-3 on aggregate and set themselves up for the final against Borussia Dortmund, with Joselu coming off the bench to score twice but have no reply.

However, Real thought they had leveled earlier in the game when Nacho's shot blocked De Ligt's effort shortly after Davies had given Bayern the lead.

The practice was subsequently banned when TNT Sports pundit Darren Fletcher highlighted that Carlo Ancelotti's side were actually breaking the rules when using VAR.

How did they violate the agreement?

And VAR and referee Szymon Marciniak Fans can watch a replay of the incident at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in an attempt to determine if Nacho fouled Joshua Kimmich before scoring.

“I think there's some kind of rule against that happening,” TNT commentator Fletcher said.

It turns out that Fletcher was right, as FIFA stipulates that in order to “protect the referee”, VAR replays must not be played in the stadium until the match official has made his decision.

Despite the extra pressure from surrounding fans and players, Marchniak rightly denied the goal.

Madrid's winner was also subject to a VAR check and was ultimately given a penalty.

Bayern's chance to equalize in stoppage time was denied when De Ligt's shot was flagged due to an offside call on Nussel Mazraoui.

Thomas Tuchel said after the game: “The linesman said sorry but it didn’t help.

“There were two mistakes. The first big one came from the linesman. He immediately raised the flag; to raise the flag in this situation you have to be very, very sure it was offside.

“Having the guts, having the guts, to raise the flag like this is a huge call, but it was the wrong decision. We had a shot within five seconds (of the flag) and the referee had a chance not to blow the whistle, but he blew it . This violates all the rules.”
