Britons looking for summer holidays to popular destinations such as Spain, France and Portugal have been warned of soaring airfares before they book.
Like almost everything else in our lives over the past few years, flight prices have increased.
According to the Mirror, the biggest price increase has been for return flights from the UK to Menorca, which have increased by 63%, from £178 in January 2020 to £291 today.
According to comparison site Hopper, the cost of a trip to Barcelona has increased by just under a third, from £143 to £187, while the cost of a trip to Malaga has risen from £192 to £246, a rise of 28% .
It's not just Spanish destinations that have been hit by rising prices. A trip to Athens costs £223, up from £182, while a flight to Mykonos costs £340, up from £278. This equates to price increases of 23% and 22% respectively.
Prices also increased in Portuguese regions such as Faro and Porto. Return flights to these destinations cost £234 and £182 respectively, up from £196 and £155.
There is some good news for holidaymakers, though, as flights to some destinations are bucking the trend and prices are actually falling.
Flight prices to Funchal, Portugal have dropped by 20%, from £259 to £207. Meanwhile, return flights to the Greek island of Lesbos and Souda fell by 15% and 13% respectively (from £379 to £321 and from £364 to £318).
