Is the money enough to convince you to pack up and leave?

A job offer has emerged on a remote island off the coast of Scotland, with a salary of £150,000.

Any questions I hear you ask? You will need training in a specific area to be considered.

A GP practice serving the Hebridean islands of Uist and Benbecula on Scotland's west coast is looking for new doctors to work and live there and is willing to pay a substantial fee to find the right person.

NHS Western Isles has posted a very poetic and descriptive job description on its vacancies page, which reads: “From the fishing port of Lochmady in the north; from the sparkling Lochboisdale in the south. Beaches to the islands of Uist and Benbecula, a place full of life, activity and culture that welcomes you.

“The posts will be based at Benbecula Medical Clinic, an island dotted with lakes and lochs, sweeping sea and spectacular views of the sea and surroundings. Post holders will be able to avail and Developing their skills and experience further is also part of the role.”

They offer salaries of between £69,993 and £104,469 for 40 hours per week roles, which is around 40% higher than the average salary for GP roles in mainland Scotland.

As if that wasn't enough, they've also promised up to an additional £8,000 towards moving costs, a remote working stipend of around £1,279 per year, and a 'golden greeting' payment of up to £10,000 to movers to the island.

If you think it can't get better, you're wrong.

This position also provides up to 41 days of annual leave per year.

NHS Western Isles said the ideal candidate for the role would be “self-reliant and motivated” with an “adventurous spirit and passion for rural medicine”.

Benbecula is small, flat and low-lying, dotted with lakes and connected to neighboring Uistes by causeways.

Balivanich has an airport and the only ATM in Benbecula and South Uist. The island has some cracked beaches, backed sand dunes and the typical Hebridean horse chairs.

If you are looking for a more peaceful and tranquil lifestyle and you have all the right qualifications and experience, this could be the opportunity of a lifetime for you.

If you've ever wondered what life is like on one of the stunning Outer Hebrides, some TikTokers have explored the neighboring Isles of Skye and Uist for you.

For those who want to travel to the Hebrides there are a number of ways to get there, with Benbecula Airport having flights to and from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness.

These flights operate year-round and are provided by Loganair, part of the British Airways reservation system.

In addition, there are ferries operated by Caledonian Macbrayne, with 5 routes throughout the year.

The lure of remote island living has become increasingly popular in recent years as many people continue to choose to work from home in the post-pandemic years.

While this particular role definitely requires a more hands-on approach and comes with a lot of responsibility, the incredibly generous pay and long list of perks and bonuses are certainly enough to make it worthwhile.
