The iconic manager admits he misses management after watching a Champions League game

Ferguson is the most successful manager in the history of the Premier League; winning 2 European Cups, 13 Premier League titles, 5 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, the European Cup Winners' Cup, the European Super Cup, and the Intercontinental Cup Champions and Club World Cup champions totaled 38 times.

The Scot left United in 2013 after scoring a 20th league win for the Red Devils.

His replacement was David Moyes, who was unsuccessful despite being targeted by Ferguson himself. United have yet to taste league success since his departure and currently sit sixth in the Premier League.

Speaking on the Manchester United Podcast, he told the Manchester United Podcast: “No, sometimes you think about it out of vanity,” when asked if he had considered returning.

“But I made the decision because Kathy's (his wife's) sister died and she was on her own, no doubt about it.

“The next year I took Cathy to the (2014) European Cup final when Real Madrid played Atletico Madrid in Lisbon and that was the first time I said to myself 'I miss this'.”

He then mentioned Cristiano Ronaldo, the player he trained before the Portuguese left for Madrid in 2009: “I went to see Ronaldo after the game and Carlo Ancelotti was the manager.

“He's a great guy and he saw me waiting in the corridor. He said: 'Cristiano is going to the medical room for treatment, come in.' “

“All the (Real Madrid) players came over and shook my hand. You know, it was a really nice moment.

Ferguson himself is no stranger to European glory, having won the Champions League twice and reaching the final four times, only to be beaten twice by Guardiola's Barcelona sides of Messi, Xavi and Iniesta.
