Dragon lovers rejoice
Details have been revealed on when Season 2 of House of the Dragon will be released
The Game of Thrones prequel was released last August to critical acclaim from critics and fans alike, and brought record-breaking ratings to HBO. This HBO series is adapted from George R.R. Martin's “Game of Thrones” book “Fire and Blood” and tells the story of the Targaryen dynasty in the fictional Westeros.
The story takes place nearly 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones” and about 100 years after the Targaryens unified the Seven Kingdoms.
The show was renewed for a second season a week after the first episode aired, and filming began in April this year. Crucially, the scripts for the upcoming series were written before this summer's Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild strikes, which halted production on many major series.
The second series will air on June 17 on Sky Atlantic.
Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, and Emma Darcy will all reprise their roles in the second season, along with Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabian Frankel, Ivan Mitchell, Tom Green-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno and Rhys Ifans.
We'll also see some new characters, with Gayle Rankin as Alys Rivers and Simon Russell Beale as Simon Strong. Simon Strong, Freddie Fox as Ser Gwayne Hightower and Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull .
Fans can expect to see more conflict and infighting within House Targaryen as the show charts the eventual fall of their rule (and their dragons) and their descent into civil war.
Fire and Blood writer Martin has previously said it would take “four full seasons of 10 episodes each” to do justice to the Targaryen story.
