This is the first time to use a white card
Sporting Lisbon and Benfica were both shown white cards in intense derby matches after Portugal introduced new rules.
Yellow and red cards are commonly used, but white cards were used in Sporting CP Women's match against Benfica.
Last year, with Benfica leading 3-0, medical staff from both sides rushed to the aid of a player who was said to be feeling unwell in the first half.
After the incident, the referee waved a white card to both medical staff and Lisbon fans cheered.

The introduction of the white card is part of a new initiative by officials to recognize and praise clubs for playing fair during competitions and aims to enhance the ethical values of the sport.
While white cards are not yet a common practice, they are part of a series of new introductions into football. In addition, concussion substitutes and longer injury time periods (as seen at the World Cup) have been introduced to make the game safer and more entertaining.
In the end, Benfica won 5-0 and advanced to the semi-finals.
