Another Premier League weekend

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe was one of the first Premier League coaches to attend a press conference. He was asked a lot about midfielder Sandro Tonali, who is currently serving a 10-month ban for gambling offenses and now faces additional sanctions.

“We don't know the honest answer (about whether his ban will be extended),” Howe told the BBC. “I certainly hope there will be no further consequences for Sandro. He is suffering during this time.

“He has asked for help. He has been very honest with us. He admitted that he had a problem. The best thing for Sandro is that he can restart his career after taking the punishment and learning a lot from it .”

“This may be a surprise to outsiders, but not to us,” Howe added. “He asks for help regularly. This is something that is not going away. He has regular meetings here and in Italy to deal with this issue.

“He is training very well and his English has improved. He has the support of his teammates. I am optimistic about his return no matter when.”
