Some clubs did vote against
The Premier League has agreed in principle to a deal that would impose a spending cap on the league.
According to The Times, league clubs reached an agreement on Monday and a final decision will be made at the upcoming annual shareholder meeting.
Manchester United, Manchester City and Aston Villa were reportedly the three clubs to vote against the idea, amid concerns that players' wages would take a hit due to the disparity in financial strength between top and bottom clubs.
Chelsea abstained from the vote and 16 others voted in favour.
As part of the deal, the cap will be linked to the minimum amount a club in the top flight can pay for TV rights.
Specific details of the cap have not yet been finalized but will be discussed at an upcoming meeting in June.
Meanwhile, a PFA spokesman issued a statement saying they opposed the introduction of any “hard” cap.
“We will wait to see the details of the proposals but we oppose any measures to impose a 'hard' cap on player wages. There is an established process to ensure proposals like this, which will directly impact our members, must be properly consulted.” they said.
