Apparently we're all laughing at them the wrong way.

A McVitie's employee has revealed the correct way the company wants people to eat their most popular biscuits – and people are surprised by the answer.

The staffer, who works exclusively for the Jaffa Cake team, answered a question from a curious Instagram user and cookie lover: “Which side of the Jaffa Cake is the bottom?

This reply has been shared as a screenshot on Home Truth Tips and Ideas The Facebook page reads: “Our Jaffa cakes go through a chocolate reservoir so the chocolate is on the bottom!”

The person who asked the question was visibly shocked by the response they received, exclaiming: “WTF dude”.

If you are still trying to understand this bombshell, let us explain it to you in simple and clear terms.

We've been holding and eating Jaffa cake upside down for years!

The revelation sparked a flurry of comments below the post.

One person wrote: “OMG my world is turned upside down.”

Another commented: “Am I the only one who always thought chocolate was the bottom?”

A third was confused as the box itself displayed the chocolate on top of the tasty treat, saying: “On the box, it's on top?”

Last year, we revealed that research conducted TopRatedCasinos.co.uk Jaffa Cake has been named the UK's “easiest slam dunk” biscuit.

If there's one thing all Brits can agree on that can be considered the “comforts of home”, it's sitting down with a cup of tea, a packet of biscuits and just relaxing.

The study was conducted by soaking 17 of the UK's most popular biscuits in water at the average temperature of a cup of tea (70 – 75°C) and then observing how long each biscuit took to break down. .

A spokesman for the company said: “The humble Jaffa cake was named the most dunkable biscuit with a staggering 116 dunks and a total time of three minutes and 16 seconds before bursting.”

“Though we have to admit, this might be a somewhat controversial winner depending on which side of the 'cookies versus cakes' debate you're on,” they added.

Now, the long-standing “cookie vs. cake” debate surrounding the humble Jaffa cake may be overshadowed by the news that the chocolate side is on the bottom and the cake side is on top.

The second most dunking player was “Chocolate Leibniz,” who completed 80 dunks in 2 minutes and 20 seconds before being broken.

Next up in third place was the classic Bourbon team, which had just two fewer dunks than Leibniz's 78, but held on a little longer before breaking through, taking 2 points 28 seconds.

Surprisingly, the regular Digestive, considered the hardest cookie to dunk on, collapsed after just 11.5 seconds – withstanding just six dunks.
