Imagine working from home – but from Italy
If you're looking out your window at the same view and feeling a little crazy, you're undoubtedly not alone. Working from home, staying at home, vacationing at home – I think it’s safe to say that we all dream of leaving somewhere at this stage.
So, how does a small vacation home in the Italian countryside sound? Like heaven? I know.
Now, you can actually buy a cup of coffee for less than the price of your daily takeout latte.
In the small town of Patricia in central Italy, desolate houses are selling for just €1 – the equivalent of 86 pence.
This is not the first time such an opportunity has arisen in Italy – Mussomeli in Sicily and Zongoli in the Campania region have both found success by selling homes at bargain prices.
However, despite the cheap price, Patricia is still trying to sell her home because to move in, you need permission from the property owner, CNN reports. It's a little tricky, though, because many people moved out of their homes in the early 1900s.
“We first need the owners or their heirs to dispose of their old houses,” said village chief Lucio Fiordaliso. “Only then can we sell the properties with their consent, which makes the whole process very complicated. It's almost impossible.”
The village, located in the mountains of Lazio, is home to 3,000 people and the two houses sold so far for €1 are owned by local residents.
“The sale of a potential one-euro house faces an impasse as most of the relatives sharing the same property disagree with each other or cannot agree on the sale for personal reasons, some barely speak or do not know each other and others live in distant cities , even abroad,” Fiordaliso added.
He explains that finding the owner of an abandoned property is like “looking for a needle in a haystack.”
