“It has been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch in March 2015. We will be hosting a Nintendo Direct this June to introduce the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the second half of 2024, but please note that there will be Don’t mention the Nintendo Switch successor in this speech.”
While many fans are hoping to see more details about the device and possibly a trailer at next month's Nintendo Direct event, President Furukawa clarified that the presentation will focus on the “Nintendo Switch software lineup in the second half of 2024.”
However, fans can take some comfort in the fact that if the Switch 2's production process is similar to that of the original Switch, we could be launching the new console early next year.
The first trailers for the Nintendo Switch were released in October 2016, and a few months later, the console hit store shelves in March 2017.
The original Switch has sold more than 130 million units since its release seven years ago, and recent popular game releases include The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and super mario marvelboth of which hit shelves last year.
The company has published Mario Vs.Donkey Kong and Princess Peach: It's show time! This year, but beyond the remake Luigi's Mansion 2 and role-playing games Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Doorno further internal titles are planned.
As anticipation for the Switch 2 has grown in recent months, various rumors and alleged leaks have inevitably emerged about the new console's features, but Nintendo itself has yet to confirm anything.
according to Pierce Harding RawlsThe head of gaming research at Ampere Analytics said that considering Nintendo's continued success since its 2017 launch, it's likely to retain a very similar look to the original device.
“Given the success of the Switch, we expect the new device to have a similar form factor and continue the legacy of the original product,” he said.
