The show is executive produced by the writers of “30 Rock” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.”
Netflix just launched the third season of its critically acclaimed comedy show girl 5eva Serve it.
The story follows four women (Busy Philipps, Paula Pell, Sara Bareilles, and Renée Elise Goldsberry) who were part of a girl group called Girls5eva, which briefly became popular around 2000 before going on to become an instant hit of miracles.
Now unfulfilled in their respective lives, they reunite to try to find musical success again after a young rapper samples a hit single.
“Girls5eva” was created by Meredith Scardino (writer of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”) and executive produced by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock (30 Rock). It originally premiered on Peacock in the United States in 2021 to rave reviews Like the tide.
In fact, its first two seasons have an impressive combined score of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Despite such critical acclaim, Peacock never seemed to find the right audience, and Peacock ultimately decided to cancel the show at the end of its second season.
However, in a bit of a shock, Netflix swooped in to buy the rights to the series and continue with a third season, which has just been released in its entirety on the streaming giant, with a total of six episodes.
While the latest season of Girls5eva has received very few reviews since its premiere, you can read below a sample of some of the positive reviews the show's first season has received:
Automatic straddle: “The best part about 'Girls5Eva' is that I know when I watch it again I'll catch some jokes I missed. It's so fast and clever.”
Globe and Mail: “In this series, the jokes come off so fast you might miss the underlying poignancy beneath it. Come for the jokes, stay for the thrilling little moments. Highly recommended.”
New York: “Girls5eva is derived from the Fey model: accessible absurdism, full of clever irony, and full of criticism.”
horror film: “Girls5eva really works. It's filled with great, multi-layered jokes; genuinely funny parody songs; and performances that rival the best on radio.”
Three seasons of Girls5eva are now streaming on Netflix.
