Mothers have come forward to protect this vulnerable woman.

A new mum has said she was left in “tears” after staff at a restaurant made her “sit in the corner” to breastfeed.

Kelly Corbin was in the restaurant of a Premier Inn hotel in Guernsey when a waiter approached her and asked her to move.

She described the incident as so traumatizing that she considered switching to formula-feeding her newborn baby to avoid another conflict.

Kelly described the emotional impact of the ordeal on social media: “I was so upset and humiliated by this. It took everything in me not to buy some formula and end our breastfeeding journey.

“As a new mum who suffered from postpartum anxiety, at a time when my mental health was on the mend, this really devastated me. You are so shameless. I don’t think I will ever breastfeed her in public again Fed.”

After Kelly posted on Facebook, a group of mums decided to take action and organized a breastfeeding protest at the same Premier Inn where Kelly was shamed.

Fellow mother Rebecca Greening, who organized the protest, shared the post and asked “breastfeeding mothers past, present and future” to show that the woman “is not alone”.

A few days later, about 30 women and children met at the Premier Inn, where hungry babies were breastfed in the restaurant.

The hotel chain has now responded to the incident and apologized to the mum.

Towards Guernsey Press, Rebecca said: “I just feel sorry for her. This happened to me 18 years ago when I had my son. You would think something would have changed in 2024.”

“After what happened we wanted to show our support to Kelly and show other mums that all mums are in this together and we should be able to breastfeed as we naturally should.”

The hotel chain also released a statement to local newspapers, saying: “We are very proud to be a family-friendly business and for us, it is important for all our guests, including new mothers and their babies, to enjoy a relaxing and comfortable stay. The experience of staying is very important.” When they check in, have coffee or dine with us, they have a great experience.

“We are deeply sorry for the confusion between one of our Guernsey hotel team members and Ms Corbin and we would like to apologize to her. We have contacted her directly and hope to welcome her back as soon as possible.”

In the comments section of a video of the protest shared by The Guernsey Press, Alison Lenouri asked: “What's the reaction from the hotel? Will love to see.”

One mom who was there responded: “As we went in and stood around waiting to get in, someone ran over to ask the manager if they should let us in. After a minute or two they let us all in and we sat down. They accepted us Drink orders. Many ladies ordered tap water so they wouldn't have to pay the Premier Inn.

“The manager spoke to the media and apologized to the lady who had been treated so poorly over the weekend. They then came in and told us all the drinks were on the house and they would also arrange some free food for us. They were very polite to us and Be inclusive. I imagine their statement will be in the news later.”

Another Facebook user commented: “I thought this was 2024, not 1924. Well done ladies.”
