Ramsdale takes responsibility for Brentford goal

Mikel Arteta has defended Aaron Ramsdale after he made a mistake in Arsenal's win over Brentford on Saturday.

Ramsdale was responsible for Brentford's equalizer as he took too long to compose himself on the ball and was blocked by Yoane Wissa. The player hinders the goalkeeper from trying to deflect the ball into the net.

Earlier, Arsenal took the lead through Declan Rice and secured a strong three points with Kai Havertz's late header, putting them ahead ahead of today's clash with Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premier League.

Arteta praises Ramsdale's courage

The Gunners' second-choice goalkeeper has been under pressure since being replaced by David Raya this season, but with Raya unavailable on loan from Brentford, Ramsdale has the chance to regain his place .

But despite the mistake, Arteta was keen to praise the England international's resilience and insisted everyone makes mistakes on the pitch.

He said: “It's really nice, especially because he did what he had to do, a man of huge character and courage, very determined.

“Mistakes are part of football.

“Depending on how you react to it, especially for a goalkeeper, it's probably the most difficult position. He's done it in an amazing way. I'm not surprised because the whole team and The whole stadium got behind him. He earned respect and admiration.”

Will Ramsdale play for Arsenal again?

With Raya expected to return for Arsenal's Champions League tie against Porto on Tuesday, the Spaniard is likely to remain in goal for the remainder of the season, meaning Ramsdale is likely to have completed his spell for the Gunners The team's last game.

Arsenal have been in fine form this season and just missed out on the title, with Ramsdale having resigned from his role as number two and having barely featured since Raya's arrival. It's possible he could be on the plane to the Euros as Jordan Pickford's understudy, but his England place could be under threat in the future.

Chelsea are reportedly among the teams interested in the former Sheffield United man, but the emergence of Dodd Petrovic could mean they cool their interest.

Arsenal are said to be hoping to part ways with the 25-year-old in the summer for a fee worth £50m.

But for now, it will be difficult for Ramsdale to feature again this season unless Raya gets injured.
