Messi's bodyguard rushes onto pitch to protect star from fans

While the Argentinian was on the other side of the pitch, his bodyguard spotted a stray fan walking into the pitch.

Within seconds, the guards caught up with the intruders and stopped the game. The incident took place at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas, where Messi's Inter Miami played against Sporting Kansas City.

The bodyguard has attracted widespread media attention since being hired by Messi. Wherever he goes, Yassine Cheiko follows. But who is he? According to The Athletic , Cheiko hasn’t revealed much on social media and hasn’t given interviews. It's a mystery, but one can assume he has some kind of military background; many former SEALs are hired as bodyguards after leaving the service.

The game was as exciting as the event and Messi was, as always, the showman. The legend provided a brilliant assist for Diego Gomez, who equalized after Sporting KC took an early lead.

Not content with just one assist, Messi turned back the clock with a beautiful goal in the 51st minute with a thunderous left-foot shot. His South American counterpart Luis Suarez came on in the 71st minute to win the game for Miami in front of more than 70,000 fans.

The win will be welcomed by fans after two consecutive defeats in recent weeks.

After the game, Miami coach Tata Martino praised his team: “It's gratifying to be No. 1, especially with this long week ahead of us,” he said. “It was very important for us to get out of the habit of draws, losses, making mistakes and we were able to do that and get back that feeling at the end of a long, difficult week that we could win.”

Next up, Inter Miami will host Nashville on April 21 as they try to retain top spot in the MLS Eastern Conference.
