'You may be prosecuted'
Martin Lewis has issued a “don't do it” warning over alleged car insurance hacks being used by some drivers.
The money-saving expert warned motorists that “jumping the gun” could land them in big trouble as it effectively amounts to fraud.
“Front-loading” is when a car owner adds a parent or relative as the primary driver of the vehicle in an attempt to lower insurance costs.
But Lewis warns that unless a parent or relative is indeed the primary user of the vehicle, this is fraud.
He wrote in his latest newsletter: “This is 'impersonation' and is fraud. If you make a claim you will be checked and if caught the insurance will lapse.
“You might even get sued. Don't do it.”
He explains that you can still get a lower quote by adding a family member with a “good driving record” as a second driver, as this can “make you appear less of a risk and lower the price.”
He continued: “Try different combinations – for example, add a parent to see the impact, remove them and add another, then try both.”

A father named Mark wrote to tell Lewis that the tip worked for him, saving 30% on his son's bill.
He said: “I renewed my 18-year-old son's car insurance and saved a whopping £450 by adding my wife as designated driver. Thank you very much.”
The newsletter also urges motorists to check if their insurance is “overpaying”, adding: “If so, you can lock in the price to prevent increases in the coming year, even if you're not close to renewal.” “.
