“I'm a huge, huge nerd when it comes to Harry Potter”
Margot Robbie had no idea her husband was appearing in the Harry Potter films, even though she is a huge Harry Potter fan.
The 33-year-old actor married film producer Tom Ackerley in 2016 after meeting him on the set of Suite Française in 2013.
But she joked that if she had known he appeared in Harry Potter, she would have married him sooner.
Speaking on The Graham Norton Show in 2020, the Australian said: “I'm a big, big nerd when it comes to Harry Potter.”
The audience was then shown a photo of 12-year-old Margot wearing Harry Potter glasses and holding one of the books.
Robbie admits she even lied about her eyesight when she was younger, hoping to get glasses like the Boy Who Lived.
But it wasn't until she married Ackerley that she realized her husband was in the movie, albeit only as an extra.
The Englishman played a Slytherin student in the first three Harry Potter films.
Recalling when Ackerley told her about his Potter cameo, Robbie joked: “I was like, 'If you had told me earlier, we would have been married in no time!'”
“When he was a little kid, he was an extra – he was one of the extras in Slytherin when Draco pushed some kids away to see Buckbeak in the third book. He pushed my husband away.”
The Harry Potter franchise has been the subject of some debate in recent days after one of its stars, Miriam Margolyes, suggested that adult fans should “give up” on the franchise.
She then doubled down on her comments in another interview, saying, “If your ball has dropped, it's time to forget about it!”
