After months of heated debate and speculation, The 96th Academy Awards finally took place this weekend. The 2024 Oscars live show will begin at 11pm (GMT) on Sunday, March 10, and will run until approximately 2am on Monday, March 11.
Even though it's widely regarded as one of the best years in the film industry and boasts an impressive slate of Best Picture nominees, an epic Christopher Nolan biopic is also looking increasingly likely Oppenheimer Will take home more gongs than anyone else.
The main favorite to win is Irish actor Cillian Murphy, who plays the tortured American Prometheus. While Murphy is the favorite to win the award, he faces competition from Paul Giamatti, Bradley Cooper (The Master), Colman Domingo for his performance in “Reserve” Go (Rustin) and Jeffrey Wright (American Novel) in a fierce competition.
Last year's highest-grossing film, “Barbie,” also received a total of eight nominations.
“Barbie,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Oppenheimer” and “Poor Thing” are all in the running for the best picture Oscar, along with “American Novel,” “Anatomy of Autumn,” “Old Things,” “The Master,” “Previous Lives,” and “Zone of Interest.”
