Gadde cleared of any wrongdoing
Richard Gadd, the creator of Netflix's hit series “Baby Reindeer,” is being investigated by producers for his professional conduct after he dated someone who auditioned for the show.
In recent weeks, Reindeer Babies has become the TV show on everyone's lips. The show follows Gad's experience of being stalked by a woman in the real world for many years.
Since airing last month, the show has soared to the top of the UK ratings charts and received critical acclaim.
However, Deadline reported that Gad was questioned by the show's producers after he allegedly dated a transgender actress who auditioned for the show.
Reece Lyons auditioned for the role of Teri, Downey's partner in the Netflix series, but Nava Mau was ultimately chosen to play the role.
According to Deadline , Gad dated Lyons after encouraging her to audition for the show in 2021. This reportedly prompted the show's producers, Clerkenwell Films, to investigate Gad's behavior.
The 34-year-old was cleared of any wrongdoing and Clerkenwell believed Gard's behavior was appropriate.
Five days after the release of “Baby Reindeer,” Lyons published a lengthy post on X detailing her experience auditioning for the Netflix series.
Although Lyons didn't mention Gad by name or confirm what series it was, Deadline has confirmed that's who she's referring to.
It is alleged that Gard failed to let Clerkenwell know that he went on four dates with Lyons between October and November 2021. The producers only became aware of this after her social media posts.
“In light of the recent discussion surrounding a newly released Netflix series, I decided to step forward and share my experience with this individual throughout the casting process,” Lyons posted.
She claims a man approached her after one of her shows and encouraged her to audition for a role in his upcoming Netflix project.
She continued: “The character is his ex-girlfriend, a trans woman. “I didn't treat her the best,” he said. I wanted to know what that meant.
“I told him I was interested in auditioning and asked him to contact my agent at the time. “But there's another thing,” he said. 'What?' I replied. 'I find you really attractive. force. “
Lyons made it clear in the post that she was “not a victim of 'abuse' of any kind.”
After dating together, Gad ended her relationship with Leon in December 2021, three months before the official casting process for “Baby Reindeer” began.
Lyons ultimately submitted her audition tape for “Terry” to Nina Gold Casting in March 2022, six months after first meeting Gad.
He did not have the final say on casting decisions but did provide feedback to Clerkenwell Films on the audition tape.
Lyons claims Gad called her and said that while he thought her audition was “remarkable,” Netflix was “looking for someone who was already a star.”
She claims that when she asked about their personal relationship, he said: “That's not going to work. You're too aggressive for me.”
A Clerkenwell source told Deadline that Lyon's account and other evidence were sufficient to conclude that Gard acted professionally and that the casting decision was not influenced. The company remains in contact with Lyon's agent.
