The king will pay public tribute for the first time since his cancer diagnosis.

King Charles will return to public duties later today, attending an Easter Sunday service at George's Chapel in Windsor.

The 75-year-old was diagnosed with a form of cancer in January and has been undergoing treatment since February.

The palace has not yet confirmed the type of cancer or the prognosis, but said in a statement released last month that the king “remains completely positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duties as soon as possible”.

The statement added that the king had chosen to go public with his cancer diagnosis “to prevent speculation and in the hope that it would help the public understand all those affected by cancer around the world.”

The princess announced her cancer diagnosis in a video posted to the website Prince and Princess of Wales Twitter account from over a week ago.

In the video, Kate revealed that she discovered the cancer after undergoing major abdominal surgery on January 14.

Middleton stressed that she is in good health and hopes for a “full recovery,” while also asking that her and her family's privacy be respected during this difficult time.

“Having William by my side also brings me great comfort and reassurance. As does the love, support and kindness shown by so many of you. It means so much to both of us,” the princess continued.

“I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you personally for all the wonderful messages of support and understanding you have received while I was recovering from surgery.

“It's been a very difficult few months for our family, but I have an amazing medical team who have taken great care of me and I'm so grateful for that.”

King Charles' attendance at the church event will be seen as a move to reassure the public following the shocking news of his daughter-in-law.

Last year was the King's first Easter Sunday service as monarch. The family's color is blue, with Charles and Camilla also wearing dark blue.
