'Mourinho was right all along'

It looks like then-Manchester United manager Mourinho's prediction may finally come true six years later.

Mourinho was in charge of the Red Devils from 2016 to 2018, before being replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as results and performances began to decline.

In two years as manager, the special man signed 11 players, including the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba, but it was a less-hyped one at the time One of the club's signings but went on to impress at Old Trafford.

“Everyone can see the potential”

Mourinho was responsible for signing youngster Diogo Dalot from Porto and after making his debut against Young Boys, Mourinho predicted the Portuguese defender would go all the way to the top.

“Everyone can see the potential he has, everyone can see he's a 19-year-old player with over 10 years left to play for Manchester United,” he said.

Six years on, Dalot has made 145 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions, including 26 appearances so far this season, and performed well in Manchester United's 4-3 victory over Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Manchester United fans admit Mourinho was right all along

Now, after another impressive performance from United, fans of the club believe Mourinho was right all along.

One fan wrote: “Mourinho said Dalot would be a right-back for the next decade and he was right all along.

“We should have known Dalot was crazy when Mourinho, of all people, pushed for a teenager,” commented a second.

“Dalot has reached a level that I think only Mourinho believed he could reach. When he signed him in 2018, he claimed he was our “right back for the next ten years”. Many held out hope, But in 2020, few believe it. It honestly seems like he will be proven right, what a good player he is,” added another.

The full-back has been one of Erik ten Hag's most loyal assets this season and has been handed a new contract until 2028 thanks to his performances in his first year in charge of the Dutchman.
