Holidaymakers are being warned not to get caught.

Anyone planning a holiday this summer is being told to check the latest 100ml liquid limit before traveling.

Passengers flying on budget airlines including Ryanair, Jet2, easyJet and TUI are looking forward to new technology planned to be rolled out at airports in June this year, which will allow passengers to carry up to two liters of liquids and gels through security.

Unfortunately, the installation of this new technology has been delayed by a year, so holidaymakers will have to live with limited allowances for another period of time.

London Heathrow and Gatwick airports are the first to install new high-tech scanners that will take better, more comprehensive photos, allowing travelers to carry more on board.

The technology was compared to the technology used for X-rays in hospitals and medical centers. They provide a clear 3D image of the contents of a passenger's bag.

Currently, all liquids and gels in hand luggage must be in containers with a capacity of no more than 100ml, and all such containers should be packed in a clear, resealable bag measuring 20cm x 20cm.

As a result of the rebound, ABTAThe Travel Advice and Holiday Information Association has issued a reminder to people planning to fly during the remaining eight months of the year.

Current carry-on baggage regulations regarding liquids and electronic devices are as follows:

  • Liquids cannot exceed 100 ml.
  • When going through security, liquids must be removed from the bag and placed in a clear, resealable plastic bag, with only one bag per person.
  • Electronic devices such as laptops and tablets will be removed from your carry-on baggage as you go through the security process.

Luke Petheridge, public affairs director at AFTA, said: “With the peak period for overseas travel approaching, travelers now need clear information on what to do when going through airport security.

“When fully implemented, the new airport scanners will make things faster and enhance security. However, the government’s recent extension shows there is still a long way to go before new security rules are implemented consistently at UK airports.

“With this in mind, our best advice is to prepare for your trip taking into account existing rules. This way you can be prepared to comply with any circumstances and avoid any unnecessary delays at security and travel from your destination Any difficulties encountered when returning.

“You can also check with your airport in advance – we also recommend checking with your return airport as well.”

Most of the public will be happy when the 100ml liquids rule is scrapped next year.

The restrictions have been in place for 18 years and are often cited as the reason for lengthy delays at airports across the country.

The rules were first introduced in the early 1990s after British police uncovered a plot by terrorists to detonate liquid explosives disguised as soft drinks on a series of transatlantic flights.
