very impressive
Lingard fever is in full swing in South Korea, with Jesse Lingard setting a new record on his home debut.
The former Manchester United man signed with K-League side FC Seoul and made his debut as a substitute in last week's season opener against Gwangju.
The midfielder has become increasingly accustomed to life at his new club, attending the Gyeongin derby against Incheon United in front of 51,670 fans at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.
Lingard already has team-mates in Seoul
Lingard's Asian adventure has caused huge shockwaves across South Korea, with excitement surrounding his home debut even leading to the creation of a designated “Lingard Zone” for fans to purchase Lingard merchandise.
Athletic team Stuart James Lines were recorded starting as early as two hours before the game so fans could buy the new merchandise.
However, fans had to wait during the match, with the 31-year-old coming on as a substitute on the hour mark, replacing Shigehiro Takuya.
His every touch was accompanied by ecstatic noises, and he even had a chance to write his name in the light, but his efforts flew over the bar.
Lingard's reaction to home debut
Although he made an impact off the bench, it was not enough to lead his new side to victory as they were held to a 0-0 draw, with Lingard admitting they should have done better with their chances.
“Maybe I should have won in the end. I had a few chances,” he said.
“There haven’t been clear enough chances but I think we can build on that. I think it all comes down to mentality and confidence going into these games.
“It was the first home game in front of a big crowd – the support was amazing from start to finish.
“We should probably end our chances.”
