Roundabouts are becoming a hot topic on the Internet
Swindon's so-called “magic roundabout” has long terrified nervous drivers, but more recently it has become a tourist attraction.
It first opened in 1972 and consists of five mini roundabouts surrounded by a larger roundabout that moves counter-clockwise.
Local residents are understandably less fond of the interchange. Many people consider it dangerous and a place where accidents can happen at any time.
However, judging from the Circle Island's TripAdvisor page, it appears that tourists are on a specific itinerary to visit the Circle Island in person.
In a review of the site, one visitor wrote: “Of all the multiple roundabout configurations we have visited, this is easily the greatest in the world.
It was a great day for the whole family. “
The second comment read: “A great way to keep traffic moving and the best that Swindon has to offer. It takes courage, focus and sheer determination to conquer this stunning site, enjoy it in Swindon 32 seconds of fun at its best.”
“Well known roundabout. Similar conditions in other parts of the country. Similar conditions in Hamel Hampstead and Colchester but not as exciting,” wrote another.
“This is a glorious piece of history not to be missed,” wrote a fourth. “A wonderful family day out full of strange and wonderful experiences.
“If you're really lucky you might even see a newbie driver driving in one, or an experienced driver, but Goldie – a bus driver just drives right through and doesn't care about other drivers.
“All in all, it was a fun-filled day that you can relive every day.”
