A fed-up wife gave her husband a harsh ultimatum when he complained about hiring a cleaner.

A woman who was tired of doing all the household chores on her own asked her husband to start paying for her services or pick up the pieces herself, much to his dismay.

The dilemma went viral on Reddit, generating more than 1,600 comments since it was posted a day ago.

The post reads: “I am a Steamfitter. But I have been doing it for a while and am supervised. With bonuses and incentives (but not benefits) I make over $100 an hour.

“I also worked out of town. I started doing that when the kids were old enough to be at home with dad and take care of themselves. So when my youngest was in middle school and my oldest was a junior in high school.

She added: “It's been great. Our retirement savings are growing and we've been able to splurge on our kids. And ourselves.”

So far, everything sounds peaceful, doesn't it? Just wait for the big reveal.

She continued: “However, my husband was upset because I decided to pay for a cleaning lady. He and I discussed the issue and we agreed that he and the children were not being kept well together while I was away. The house is clean and tidy. I hate coming home to a mess. This has caused some arguments because they seem to expect me to come home and clean up after them.

“Having her is wonderful. I come home and see a clean house and I’m happy. My kids have more time to study and participate in extracurricular activities. They still have chores and still need to clean up after themselves.

“The last time I came home, my husband came to me and said we should cut down on services when I came home. I should do more housework. He thought we were wasting money. I said I worked 13 hours a day for 14 days straight. Yes Yes, it was mostly paperwork, but his job as a teacher wasn't that physically challenging. I said I could give him two options. If he wanted, we could cancel the service entirely, and he and The kids could make sure the house was in good shape when I came home. Or he could pay me an hourly wage and let me do extra chores on my days off.

“He was upset with me and said I was financially manipulative. I think if he and the kids had actually done what they were supposed to do in my absence, none of this would have been a problem.”

If this woman was hoping to find comfort by sharing this problematic situation with others on Reddit, that's exactly what she got.

One user said hiring a cleaner was the least problematic solution to this dilemma: “So, you afford it, everything is done, everyone has free time, and no one has to do anything they don't want to do , no one wants to do anything.” Any fight that happens over that – I mean, there's really no harm in that, everybody wins.

“He was upset because you said he had to do his duty if the maid was gone, which is telling. You didn't come home to make a mess, but you should have worked so much and then come and clean him up, just because he Want to “save money” while still sitting on his ass?

“People like your husband always reinforce my decision to stay single.”

Another user twisted the knife deeper into her husband. They wrote: “His pride is hurt because she makes more money than he does, so he is not the breadwinner. If my job means we can have cleaner days and more time, then let's go! “

Others called the man a “misogynist” and said he was living in a “fantasy world.”

“I think some men have a real blind spot when it comes to paying people to do chores,” another said.

“Maybe some women are like that too, I don't know, I've never been in a relationship with a woman, but I've had similar discussions with my partner.

“Maybe it would be helpful if you showed your husband, bit by bit, which parts of the house you think are now really nice and clean because of the cleaners. Then remind him again that you don't mind paying, You're not asking him to do this, he's just making it affordable for both of you to enjoy this completely understandable 'luxury'.”
