Doudou, you did it wrong!

They're one of the most popular dishes on British menus – baked beans on toast.

But that doesn't mean the British know how to make beans on toast, right.

Turns out, toasting bread and slathering it with beans doesn't quite work.

There was baked beans etiquette, and a man wearing a Heinz-colored V-neck, blazer, shirt and tie came to the rescue to help educate the crowd on behalf of Heinz.

In a series of TikTok videos, etiquette expert William Hanson reveals how to get the dish right.

Hanson announced in the video that he would teach people how to eat beans on toast in a “quintessentially British way”.

“When you have beans on toast, don't overwhelm the toast with beans, that's not your local lido,” he said.

“Good butter, unsalted of course because we’re not pagans, that ensures it stays crunchy.”

So if you pour the contents of a can onto a piece of toast, it turns out you don't know much about the beans on the toast.

Heinz even commented on the video, writing: “There are two kinds of people in the world. Those who add butter to their beans on toast and those who don't.”

In another video, Hansen discusses plating and cutlery. Apparently, silver cutlery is sold that “reacts with the beans.”

People have taken issue with Hanson's suggestion to use unsalted butter, with some calling it a “hate crime”.

One thing Hansen didn't mention was how to eat the meal, with one person quickly asking: “Yeah, but how do you eat it? I have friends who eat with their hands and friends who eat with a fork and knife.” ”

While another admitted they had never tried the delicacy.

Heinz's “bean expert” Paul told Cambridgeshire Live: “Bean toast is a cornerstone of British cuisine but people still get it wrong or aren't sure how to make it. Heinz has brought together the best ways to make the classic treat and put the process to the test , so people can enjoy the classic treat at home. Our simple instructions will guarantee delicious results.”

step 1: Place two slices of white farm bread into the toaster.

Step 2: Store jars upside down and shake for five seconds before use to ensure beans and sauce are evenly distributed.

Step 3: Heat the beans on the stovetop for three to four minutes, stirring constantly. Don't cook the beans.

Step 4: Spread the butter evenly over the toast until it reaches the crust.

Step 5: Place toast on plate. Pour over beans.

Step 6: (Optional) Grate cheese over hot beans and allow to melt for 2 minutes.

Extra tips from Heinz Beanz:

  • Store Heinz Beanz at ambient temperature (preferably 18°C).
  • Add your Heinz Beanz to a cold stainless steel pot, stainless steel helps preserve the signature flavor you know and love.
  • Never boil Heinz Beans. This may cause the sauce to break down, potentially ruining the color and flavor. ·
  • Heat Heinz Beanz to 64°C to reach ready-to-serve temperature. If you need time to finish toasting, choose 75°C.
