The former Manchester United midfielder has vowed to fight the ban.
Paul Pogba insists he will fight a reported four-year ban after failing a doping test. La Repubblica reports that the midfielder has been banned for four years for a doping violation.
The 2018 World Cup-winning France international issued an impassioned statement after learning of the potentially career-ending ban.
Paul Pogba was temporarily suspended from September 2023 after a drug test was found to contain DHEA in his system. This is a hormone that increases testosterone levels in the body.
In October, his B sample also came back positive, confirming he had failed a drug test. Pogba declared in a statement released today (February 29):
“I was informed of the National Anti-Doping Tribunal’s decision today and believe the verdict is incorrect. I am saddened, shocked and heartbroken that everything I have built in my professional career has been taken away from me.
“The whole story will become clear when I am free of legal restrictions, but I have never knowingly or knowingly taken any supplements that violated anti-doping regulations.
“As a professional athlete, I will never use banned substances to enhance my performance, nor will I disrespect or deceive the athletes and supporters of any team I play for or against. According to the decision announced today, I will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.”
The Frenchman was on the bench during Juventus' 3-0 Serie A win over Udinese and was selected for random testing after the game.
According to reports, prosecutors did not believe Pogba's claim that he accidentally consumed the substance.
Pogba, who won the World Cup with France in 2018, is 31 years old this year, so missing four years of competition is likely to mean the end of his career.
