In the early morning of the holiday, a cruel accident blocked the way for many people to travel or go home. The loss of a loved one is painful, the separation is unexpected, and all comfort pales in front of the heartbreaking pain.
In the severe pain, there is also warmth.In the early morning of May 1, in the darkness of the highway, some drivers and passengers survived the landslide and tried their best to shout, signal, and even kneel on the road to stop the vehicles behind them.

It wasn't until he saw the bulletin during the day on May 1 that Mr. Rao, a native of Meizhou, Guangdong, had a clear concept of time for the night he experienced. At about 2:10 a.m. on May 1, he drove through Dabu on the Mei-Dalian Expressway, about 2 kilometers toward the exit of the Chayang section in the Fujian direction. He remembered that the night sky was clear and the sight was good.
That was perhaps the most important judgment in Mr. Rao's life – he “saw a dark area ahead” and thought it was water, so he changed lanes to the left express lane and passed quickly.
Mr. Rao drove a 7-seater commercial vehicle, and there were 7 people in the car. In addition to his wife and two children, there were also his mother and parents-in-law. Because he was very close to the suspected water accumulation, Mr. Rao stepped on the accelerator hard when changing lanes. He felt something was wrong. He described, “It felt like the car was flying.” After landing, the tire burst.
Mr. Rao admitted that if it were not for the puncture, he would have thought he had just made a normal lane change and avoided a splash of water.After getting out of the car, Mr. Rao was shocked to find that the dark area was not a puddle, but a collapsed lane. The tire burst was also caused by the tire falling on the sharp spot on the road after the collapse.Mr. Rao later concluded that he was the first driver to pass after the landslide.
The elderly and children were at a loss as to what to do in panic. After Mr. Rao made the call to the police, vehicles from behind were still coming. His wife was the quickest to calm down and asked the whole family to pick up their mobile phones and turn on their flashlights and wave their hands constantly to signal the vehicles in front not to pass.No one stopped as the seven people shouted, “Don't go forward.” One, two, three… cars fell one after another from the landslide.
The next moment, Mr. Rao's father-in-law climbed over the guardrail, walked backwards to the other side of the collapsed road section, and waved. Looking at her father's back, Mr. Rao's wife cried: “I was afraid that my father would be hit by a car. He was driving in the opposite direction, and I shouted desperately, 'Dad, come back!' But he had already run to the other side of the pit. I called him , he couldn't hear it.
But waving still didn't help. Two or three cars saw the person in the middle of the road and obviously slowed down, but soon thought it was okay and continued to step on the accelerator.Mr. Rao's father-in-law watched the car fall. He knelt down in the middle of the express lane without any further hesitation. This time, the car finally braked.
The driver raised his head and cursed, “Are you going to die?” After hearing the explanation, he looked at the black figure in front of him. An aunt got out of the car and knelt down on the opposite side as well, saying, “Thank you.”
Mr. Rao's father-in-law later said to his daughter: “I knelt down before someone stopped the car.”
There is gold under the man's knees. This kneeling is for life which is more precious than gold. The low-beam and high-beam lights were shining on the old man, and one car after another was covered with red brake lights. In the slow lane next to it, the driver also realized something was wrong and slowed down to check the situation. Before the collapse, there was finally a red brake light.
After the rescuers arrived, Mr. Rao's family supported each other and walked slowly down the highway for several kilometers to meet relatives who came to pick them up. Mr. Rao stayed alone on the road where the incident occurred until after 5 o'clock in the morning. Life is long, but not many “homecomings” can be remembered like this.
On the highway, Mr. Rao's father-in-law didn't know what “fear” was; after returning home, he had several emotional breakdowns.Mr. Rao's mother could not sleep that night. But they have a common comfort,They stopped many, many cars and rescued many, many people, although they did not know how many cars or people there were.
