Game of Thrones star Ian Geld dies at 74

Gelder has become best known in recent years for playing Kevan Lannister on Game of Thrones, but he also had a stellar career elsewhere.

The actor has appeared in TV series including Doctor Who, The Bill and Torchwood.

His husband, Ben Daniels, released a heartbreaking statement on Instagram: “It is with great sadness and a million heavy hearts that are broken that I announce the passing of my loving husband and life partner Ian Gerr De's death.

“Ian was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma in December and he passed away yesterday at 13:07. I stopped everything from work to look after him but none of us knew it would happen so quickly. He was my absolute Pillar, we have been working together for over 30 years.

“If we weren't together, we would talk to each other every day. He was the kindest, most generous, most loving man. He was a wonderful actor and everyone who worked with him was touched by his heart and light move.

“Honestly, I don't know what I would do without him around. He dealt with a terrible disease with such bravery and no self-pity. Ever.

“He was brilliant and will be sorely missed. This photo was taken over Christmas after I dropped him off hospital and even though he had had the worst three weeks you could still see his joy and Love is shining.

“Get some rest, dear Chianni.”
