Belfast-set drama returns to screens

Since the end of “Happy Valley” last year, fans of the TV series have been left with a big hole in their hearts like a police drama.

Well, thankfully, that didn't last long, as Blue Light premiered at No. 1 just a few months after the beloved show starring Sarah Lancashire ended season.

Soon after Blu-ray was released, fans were saying it was a perfect alternative to the crime drama in their entertainment repertoire, maybe even better.

“For three new police recruits in Belfast, the pressure is enormous,” the official synopsis reads. “Faced with criminal gangs and divided communities, they don't know who to trust. Chances are, they won't all succeed.”

Season 1 stars Sian Brooke, Katherine Devlin and Nathan Braniff and follows the trio during their first year in office.

Although the show has only released one season so far, fans are already hailing Blu-ray as a crime drama classic.

“Just watched BBC's Blue Lights, all 6 episodes, it was great! The storyline is top-notch and the cast is top-notch. A great watch, comparable to Happy Valley. 10/10,” one netizen wrote online road.

A second said: “Blu-ray S1. If you think Happy Valley, Unforgettable and Line of Duty are the best British police dramas, slide over and make room for the BBC's latest show. Brilliant cast The cast, the plot and the pacing. S2 can’t come soon enough.”

“Just watched the first season of Blue Lights (BBC iPlayer) and it was great. Grips and moves right. I know it's hard to believe but this is even better than Happy Valley,” wrote a third.

Season 2 will land later this month

With the first season released last March, viewers have been waiting on tenterhooks for an update on season 2, and now we finally have a confirmed release date for the second season.

The project's writers and directors, Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson, told the BBC: “Blue Light is a very personal project for us, based on the fact that we live in city as the backdrop, so it was a special privilege for us to make this show.

“In series two, we join our officers a year after the events of series one, now facing a whole new set of professional and personal challenges.”

The BBC has confirmed that the second series of the show will air in its entirety on iPlayer at 6am on April 15, with the first episode airing on BBC 1 at 9pm.

The new footage from the show has viewers eagerly anticipating the release of season two.

A second tweeted: “Absolutely brilliant series, so good.” Can't wait for season 2 to start. “

A third said: “Wonderful series…can't wait for it to come back.”
