If you're reading this, you probably already know this.
Facebook and Instagram were brought down globally, with thousands or even millions of people unable to access their accounts.
DownDetector monitors network outages around the world, showing more than 230,000 Facebook outage reports.
Instagram received over 30,000 reports, making it one of the biggest issues Meta (which owns both platforms) has faced in years.
As of this writing, neither Facebook nor Instagram have released statements outlining what went wrong with the sites or what may have caused the massive outage.
Like Facebook and Instagram, vulnerabilities are reported in Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp – although far fewer people appear to be affected.
Users of the service have taken to X, officially known as Twitter, to share their concerns about the outage.
As one user wrote: “Anyone else logged out of #Facebook? Can't log back in, keeps saying session has expired or unexpected error.”
Another added: “I've logged out of Facebook and Instagram and it won't load. First thought was, has my account been hacked?! Luckily it's just #facebookdown and #instagramdown.”
Another Facebook user wrote: “Hi Facebook, is anyone else logged out of #Facebook? Can't log back in, keeps saying session expired or unexpected error? #facebookdown #meta.”
How long will the outage last? no one knows.
