The FA has responded

Nike and the Football Association have said there are no plans to recall England's Euro 2024 kits after fans complained about a detail.

England launched their new kit earlier this week and after an initial backlash over the price, fans also lost their minds over what was on the back.

Instead of the usual traditional red cross, Nike has replaced it with a “playful update” in navy, light blue and purple.

This led to people labeling the kit “woke”, with even Keir Starmer chiming in: “This flag is what everyone uses, it's a unity and it doesn't need to change.”

Prime Minister Rishi Sank also said “don't mess with” the flag.

However, Nike said they would not change or recall the jersey, which “sold out” in its first week on sale.

A spokesman said: “The England 2024 home jersey is a modern take on a classic that turns history on its head. The trim on the cuffs is inspired by the training kit worn by England's heroes in 1966, with a gradient of blue and red, topped with purple. The same color also features an interpretation of the flag of St. George on the back of the collar.

The FA also backed Nike, giving the American manufacturer its full support, and issued its own statement, saying this was “not the first time” the colors of the St. George's flag had been changed, with the latest design actually paying homage to the 1966 World Cup-winning jersey.

A spokesman for the Football Association said: “England's new 2024 home jersey has many design elements designed to pay tribute to the 1966 World Cup winning team.

“The colorful trim on the cuffs is inspired by the training kit worn by England's heroes in 1966, and the same color is used on the back of the collar. This is not the first time a different color St George's Cross has been used on an England shirt.
“We are very proud of the red and white St George's Cross – the English flag. We understand what it means to our fans and how it unites and inspires and it will be at Wembley tomorrow when England take on Brazil Prominently displayed at Lee Stadium – as always.”

Industry experts also said that even if they made a new kit, it would take about six to nine months to complete the design.
