This pastel-colored city with its cobbled streets is like escaping from a fairy tale.

As the first signs of spring begin to appear across the UK, you might be thinking about coming out of hibernation and heading out into the world again for the first time since Christmas.

If this is you, then a weekend getaway might be in your plans, just to tide you over until summer freedom.

While this particular spot is certainly many degrees cooler than the UK, we think cheap beer and reasonable flights might make it an enticing prospect.

Estonia’s capital doesn’t usually come up in discussions about enticing city breaks, but Tallinn is the Eastern European frontrunner for its old-world feel and unique affordability.

Tallinn’s historic Old Town awarded UNESCO It became a World Heritage Site in 1997. Medieval buildings and cobbled lanes surround the 13th-century city walls, which are still well preserved.

The town is an especially magical place in the winter, with constant snow covering the ancient rooftops and making the whole place look like a scene from Disneyland freezing.

The people of this Baltic country have an obsession with temperature tennis, and one of the most popular things to do as a visitor to the country is to immerse yourself in the Baltic Sea to experience the incredible health benefits of cold diving.

If you need motivation to do so, just know that you can warm up in one of Tallinn's sauna parks, then go grab a £3.80 beer and dance the night away at an open-air rave to get your blood pumping. It happened in a remote forest outside the city.

If you're looking for a more active way to rest, playground The hiking and skiing resort is located in the town of Korvemaa, just 40 minutes' drive from the city.

Considering you only spent £34 on a return flight, you'll have plenty to spend on massage treatments and Nordic cuisine.

Tallinn also has a strong arts and culture scene, with St. Nicholas Church in the city center offering exhibitions that provide insight into the area's medieval history.

If you prefer modern art then go to Poco Instead, the Museum of Pop Art houses works by Banksy and Warhol. If that's not enough for you, the city of Tartu will become the European Capital of Culture this year.

Two hours' drive south of Tallinn, the city went all out with street art and sculpture to celebrate its new status.

Like their love of heat and cold, Estonia is a country of contrasts with the ability to attract a wide range of tourists and vacationers.

Whether it's modern cuisine, art and ski slopes, or history, ancient architecture and ice baths, Tallinn has something for everyone.

Plus, if cheap flights and cheap beer are enough for you, there's currently nowhere else in Europe that offers you a better deal.
